I am currently a consultant and advisor to companies within the technology industry. My areas of focus overlap innovation, public policy, and business strategy and I have a particular interest in regulatory challenges related to technological disruption and the law. I have a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and will be completing graduate legal studies at the University of Toronto. I write for various media platforms including Forbes, the Brookings Institution, Singularity Hub, Futurism and Futurithmic and have written or edited eight books across a range of subjects. I have worked as an advisor to government in Latin America and North America and have been invited to speak on my work at a number of universities and research centers including the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Harvard University, the American Enterprise Institute, the Center for Global Policy Solutions, Stanford University, the University of Toronto, UC Santa Cruz, and Microsoft Research. In addition to speaking and writing, I am also a film producer and screenwriter with a special interest in science fiction. I currently chair an annual conference on Technology, Knowledge, and Society for Commonground Publishing.
